The Hotel Management School Maastricht (HMSM), part of Zuyd Hogeschool / The Netherlands, is globally recognized as one of the best hotel management schools in its field. The HMSM offers a four-year bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a Dutch and English track, and, in collaboration with (international) universities two master’s degrees.

Teaching Hotel Château Bethlehem (THCB), is the practical learning ground for the hotel school students and is an integral part of the educational program. The 26 room hotel complete with bar/bistro, restaurant, meeting and banqueting facilities offers HMSM students an innovative learning experience on all levels, from daily operation to managerial tasks. With the “Teaching Hotel” an inspiring hotel concept creates a unique selling point for both students and employees of the HMSM.

The Teaching Hotel is managed by a small and highly motivated team who is responsible for the operational management of the hotel from a commercial as well as educational perspective.
To further enforce the team we are seeking an:


1.0 fte

The incumbent will be an important player within the food & beverage team in the Teaching Hotel with the main responsibility to enhance gastronomy and hospitality in both operations and education. The R&B instructor is responsible, together with his/her colleagues, for maintaining high standards of service and guest experience and achieving educational goals.

We are looking for a candidate who meets the following criteria:
  • has considerable and relevant experience in renowned (international) restaurants/hotels
  • has passion for his/her profession and is inspiring, creative and quality focused
  • is a team player: flexible, reliable, integer and with excellent communication skills
  • is focussed on developing students and has an eye for recognizing and stimulating individual talent
  • stimulates own initiative and individual responsibility by the students
  • has English and Dutch language skills (minimal language requirement)
  • is able to work duties in line with business demands
  • can work with relevant computer applications e.g. Word, Excel, Point of Sales systems
  • has charisma, ‘guts’ and humour

We offer a position with the following responsibilities:
  • Training-on-the job, motivating and coaching of students who work in the hotel as part of the bachelor program.
  • Managing of and supervising trainees who work in the hotel.
  • Coordination and planning of work schedules/timetables in conjunction with the students.
  • Responsible for the daily operations and standards in restaurant and banqueting sections.
  • Shared responsibility for all aspects related to cost and revenue control in the department.
  • Enhancing an optimal guest experience

Employment conditions:
  • An appointment of 1,0 fte for a duration of 1 year with the Stichting Zuyd Hogeschool or via payrolling at Randstad Employability. Subject to satisfactory performance is the possibility of an extension of employment in accordance with the “flex work law”. For internal candidates, the current period of employment is respected.
  • Depending on former education and experience, classification takes place in accordance with the CAO HBO within the career perspective of scale 7 or 8 (with a minimum of € 2.107,72 and maximum € 3.226,54 gross per month when appointed full-time).
